Online Casinos Respond
The Kentucky government may be overstepping its boundaries with the announcement
of planned legislation that could lead to the state government attempting to
confiscate more than 140 domain names that are linked to online casino gambling.
The current Kentucky governor is looking to completely block foreign and
domestic online casinos from accessing Kentucky gambler – the enforcement plan
includes shutting down the domain name for internet gambling sites that do not
comply with the governor’s legislation blocking internet gambling. The US
already has federal legislation in place that attempts to block the offshore
internet casinos via banking transactions – this newly proposed method by the
Kentucky government though has international implications that are raising
concerns in the international gambling industry.
Fortunately for some of the major online casino gambling brands that accept US
players, these sites are registered in the UK and therefore ought to be largely
outside of the influence of US legislation. Some of the internet casinos that
could be affected by the legislation have noted that they are actually largely
unconcerned with the effects of this latest attempt by the US to ban online
gambling.
According to recent reports in the industry, the major domain registration
companies that count the popular online casinos among their clients plan to send
representatives to Kentucky to fight the proposed legislation. This is the
extent of their plans though because Com Laude and others assert that their
domain names are not up for confiscation because they are registered in the UK
rather than the US market. |
