Online Casinos Provide Funds
The Remote Gaming Association is on the defense this week amid some in the media
claiming that online casinos are not doing their part to contribute to the
Responsibility in Gaming Trust which provides education and assistance for
gambling addicts. The UK and European governments are promoting increasingly
liberal online casino legislation, which has both positives and negatives.
Online casinos on the one hand have more room to advertise and have other
privileges but also have some very strict responsible gaming regulations to
follow. The downside to increases in internet gambling activity is surely the
threat of an increase in problem gamblers.
Problem gambling is sadly a fact of life in countries that allow both land and
online casino gambling. But the RGA asserts that the internet gambling groups –
both offshore and onshore gambling groups are asked to contribute a minimum
amount to the Trust. The media however has latched on to the fact that a few of
the major online casinos that are licensed and operated remotely have opted not
to contribute sufficient amounts to the Trust. And while there is truth in that
statement, the RGA criticizes the media for failing to mention the fact that the
Trust was fully funded this past year even without the contributions of some
online gambling groups.
The contribution system into the Responsibility in Gaming Trust is still in the
refinement process and as the RGA and governmental bodies consider methods of
enforcing or encouraging donations to the Trust, the RGA wants it known that the
Trust is still fully funded by those online casinos with a commitment to
preventing problem gambling and providing services to the community to educate
and support problem gamblers. |
