Raising the Poker Profile
The thrill and stress of an election year is upon the nation and that leaves
many politicians and Americans weighing all of the issues as November 4th
approaches. The Poker Players Alliance has really begun to push the topic of
legalized online casino and poker gambling in the United States and is looking
for either or both of the Presidential nominees to address the issue. The media
has been all over the two charity poker gambling events that coincided with both
of the National Conventions. The PPA’s tactic was to bring the online casino
poker issue right to the politicians if they are not willing to address the
issue themselves – and it has helped draw attention to the issue.
Last week’s Republican National Convention (RNC) drew viewers from around the
nation – but what you didn’t see covered on CNN was the Charity Poker event that
coincided with Sarah Palin’s acceptance speech. The PPA and the American Gaming
Association sponsored the land poker competition as a way to raise awareness
about online casino poker gambling as well as raise money for the Paralyzed
Veterans of America.
The poker event brought out not only PPA members who support the legalization of
online casinos and poker gambling in the states, but also top poker
professionals in the industry looking to raise money for a good cause. The two
poker events raised more than $130,000 for the Paralyzed Veterans of America
charity. The DNC raised over $60,000 while the RNC raised more than $70,000. |
