Gambling Figures Rise in Poland
You don’t hear a lot about the Polish online casino gambling industry in the
media. The market is not plagued by a gambling monopoly and the Polish gambling
market has slowly but steadily increased over the past several years – not very
newsworthy material really. But that would lead some to the false conclusion
that the Polish online gambling market is undeveloped and/or untapped, and that
is actually false. Recent reports out of Poland suggest that gambling at the
internet casinos is on the rise and that in the coming years that internet
gambling market could surpass the telecommunications industry in terms of annual
revenues.
A newspaper out of Warsaw recently published a detailed accounting of the online
casino gambling industry in the country and noted that the industry has seen a
steady “upward trend.” Estimations for the amount that polish gamblers spend at
the land and online casinos and boomaker shops indicate that the 2008
expenditures could be as high as $7.63 billion – a decent chunk of the European
gambling market for sure.
A lot of the money spent on gambling in the country is done through the land
casinos and pubs – slots are readily available at pubs and service stations all
over the country. Additionally, the state lottery is very popular and gamblers
are increasingly spending their money on lottery tickets and the such. Yearly
increase in the amount spent by Polish gamblers at the land and online casinos
jumped 40 percent last year and the $7.63 billion predicted for this year is
based on estimations that the industry will jump an additional 40 percent. |
