Plan of Enforcement on Online Casinos
The recent issue igniting out of Kentucky has almost entirely taken the
spotlight off of the online casino gambling debates that are still raging in
Congress concerning the US’s national internet gambling policy. As politicians
on Capitol Hill continue to resolve those conflicts the Kentucky government is
entering a fierce battle to seize and control the domain names of more than 140
online casinos and betting sites.
The Kentucky government only earlier this month announced the plan to confiscate
the domain names of online casinos offering services to Kentucky residents.
Although there is intense opposition to the proposed legislation the Kentucky
courts have already temporarily seized control of the domain names involved in
the case until a further judgment is made.
Some wonder though just the extent of problems that the online casinos would
encounter if the state government upholds the planned legislation. Basically,
the government would hold the power to shut down the online casinos in
non-compliance with Kentucky law. So what is Kentucky asking for from the
internet gambling companies? Not only would the internet gambling companies be
forced to block Kentucky gamblers from the sites, but they would face fines for
the state’s lost revenues – all in all not a very positive deal for the online
gambling companies. The judge in the case has thoroughly outlined those two
conditions that would come into law in the judge approves the case. The online
gambling companies would be wholly under the control of the Kentucky officials
or the state will simply shut down the domain name and the gambling companies
will be forced to transfer the brand and platform over to a new domain name. |
