Trouble in Patent Paradise?
Scott Lewis has gained infamy throughout the online casino gambling industry for
his aggressive patent disputes over the past several years, most recently and
noticeably the case against Bodog Entertainment. Scott Lewis is the CEO at 1st
Technology and he has filed patent disputes against some of the top names in the
online casino gambling industry – and some have even paid up. But all of his
patent litigation could be short lived if the recent reports are on target,
according to new information the United States Patent and Trademark Office has
passed a new ruling on the 1st Technology cases that could strip the company of
some of its patent rights and thus limit the patent lawsuits that the company
can levy against foreign online casinos.
The case is still pending with the USPTO office but in the mean time 1st
Technology is no longer able to pursue new patent disputes with online casinos.
This is a huge step in a positive direction for the foreign online gambling
companies that were negatively affected by the 1st Technology patent disputes.
1st Technology has won several patent disputes through default judgments because
many foreign online casinos and internet gambling companies are unable to appear
in US courts, which is where the patent disputes are filed.
There is no telling the outcome of this latest investigation by the USPTO but
there is every indication that 1st Technology has overstepped its boundaries
with some of its patent litigation. This could bode well for online gambling
companies like Bodog who have consistently denied that 1st Technology is within
its rights with all of the recent patent disputes, default judgments and nasty
communications. |
