Outcry from Winners: 2
Some online casino gamblers though are in support of the new Betfair policy. The
supporters are the internet bettors who don’t necessarily take home the big wins
and would actually benefit if the major bettors left the company. Betfair has a
virtual monopoly on the international online casino betting industry and that is
what has angered the big bettors who have few other viable choices. But the true
bettors – who win some bets and lose others will not be affected by the new
premium.
One blogger on summed up the benefit to some online gamblers – “I'm a gambler,
so the way I bet, it won't make a difference. The people who will be screaming
will be the math professors with computer models, the ones who just never lose.
If they clear off, it should be even easier for me to make money.”
Even though there is some support though in the online casino gambling industry
the support is for selfish reasons, not because the new premium is considered a
positive new industry standard. Really, the opposition to it all comes from the
fact that online casino gamblers feel that the newly announced policy defies all
of the company ethos and business practices up until this point. Betfair is an
organization developed by punters and for punters and the new premium charges
are far from acceptable and standard industry policy.
Additionally, the premium charges resemble income tax in a way and could set a
dangerous precedent for the online casino betting industry. If Betfair begins to
charge these new fees, and it works, the company has just given the government
an effective system for perhaps taxing winnings. |
