Non-Seizure Still Expensive for Online Casinos
Even in the face of extreme opposition to the Kentucky government’s proposed
seizure of online casino domain names some of the states top officials are
confident that process will continue. Others though are not so sure, and some
speculate that the Kentucky governor has no idea how expensive this battle could
become. The online casinos are backed by billions of dollars worldwide and there
isn’t and internet gambling site in the world that supports the recent Kentucky
legislation. Gamblers and gambling companies will find out in a ruling later
today whether the courts will order the seizure of online gambling domain names
– even if the legislation does pass through there is every chance that a
multitude of companies and organizations will file appeals to the order.
The fact of the matter is that the proposed legislation would give the Kentucky
government sole control and authority over a large portion of the online casino
gambling industry if the domain names are seized. The online casinos would have
to spend huge sums of money rebranding their sites and switching services over
to a new domain should the seizures occur – and while this is an effective
tactic for the internet gambling companies, it would cost inordinate sums of
money.
The sheer enormity of the proposed legislation has struck many within and
outside of the online casino gambling industry. If the Kentucky government
obtains control over the domains the state would have the power to completely
block access to the sites for gamblers all over the world. |
