Where's the Justice?
The problem with the Republican right is that the politicians just seem to set
themselves up for conflict and persecution with their uber conservative views
and often righteous justification of various issues based on their personal
morals. Alabama Representative Spencer Bachus is the latest politician who has
found himself in a moral quandary. Bachus denounces the online casino gambling
industry at every given opportunity and argues that the pastime will corrupt the
American public, yet now it looks as though Bachus could be implicated in
questionable trading activity on the stock market in light of his position on
the House Financial Services Committee.
Bachus has gained the public eye in recent because of his vocal opposition to
any legislation that would legalize online casino gambling in the states. And
even more notably, Bachus has blasted the gambling industry with questionably
accurate statistics related to internet casino gambling – the research he often
cites is unfounded or taken completely out of context. But all of this
moralizing on his part is what makes the current illegal or questionably ethical
trading implications such a riot.
The guy who moralizes about online casinos is assumed to have used insider
knowledge of the workings of Congress to day trade in the stock market. Several
of his day trading stocks have risen abruptly because of legislation going
through Congress – and he sells right after the stocks show and increase! Bachus’
representative claims that Bachus has never used insider knowledge to benefit in
the stock market but his track record appears to show otherwise and it will be
interesting to see if anything comes of these recent allegations against Bachus. |
