Insulting Online Casino Offers
The US government and representatives meeting with the EU delegation in
Washington this week may have just set into effect an unstoppable chain of
events that is far from favorable for the United States. The EU delegation is in
the US this week to specifically investigate the US’s actions concerning the
UIGEA and enforcement of the online casino gambling ban. The delegation has
already been blown off by the US officials several times over the past three
months and the reports that the this latest meeting have gone south do not bode
well. The delegation entered the negotiations with the US officials with the
knowledge that the US was unlikely to alter its stance on offshore online
casinos accessing the US market – but the delegation was seeking for an
assurance that the Department of Justice would stop further actions against EU
online gambling companies that operated in the US prior to the UIGEA.
The EU online casinos are demanding that the EU delegation seek further
explanation on the prosecutorial procedures related to the UIGEA. The UIGEA has
been in place for nearly two years at this point and since the enactment of the
UIGEA US Trade Representatives have been notoriously obstinate in terms of
compromise. The US’s position on online casino gambling is firm and even threats
of further World Trade Organization action has apparently had no effect of the
US’s willingness to compromise and negotiate effectively.
There has been no official word on the way that the negotiations have progressed
but trusted information leaked to the major news sources indicates that the
negotiations have not proceeded in a positive direction thus far. And since the
EU online casino gambling companies are demanding additional action the only
next step is taking the case to the WTO once again. |
