Online Casinos Free to Advertise
The Australian internet sportsbetting market is now allowed to advertise freely
in New South Wales now that the courts have officially ruled that foreign online
casino sportsbetting sites have the right to advertise in New South Wales in
competition with the Australian betting sites. The New South Wales government
previously attempted to block foreign online casinos and betting companies from
the market, but the Betfair gambling group took the case to the courts and
aggressively pursued a fair resolution. The result will arguably mean that
advertising and promotional activities are now fair game for any sportsbetting
company.
The international online casino gambling industry has found several similar
cases all over the world as state governments attempt to protect the domestic
companies from foreign competition. This attitude though is also in direct
opposition to trade agreements and the Australian territories have begun embrace
a more competitive online betting market over the past several years. New South
Wales was one territory that remained largely closed to outside competition in
terms of internet casinos and sportsbetting sites – that has officially changed
however.
The Betfair case found resolution in the courts in March of this year but it has
taken several months before the New South Wales regulatory agency actually began
enforcing the new court rulings. To that end, online casino sportsbook operators
in New South Wales were contacted by the Office of Liquor, Racing, and Gaming
with the notification that New South Wales would operate in compliance with the
March High Court ruling. |
