Why did the Dot Coms Disappear?
Internet gamblers heading to their favorite online casino gambling sites might
be in for a bit of a surprise this week – companies large and small are
protecting their interests from plans that are brewing in the Kentucky
government. Kentucky Governor Beshear seems intent to put legislation in place
that will block the online casinos from accessing Kentuckians – the question
though still resounds…is it legal? Internet gambling companies in the UK brushed
off the initial reports that the Kentucky government planned to seize control of
the domain names of any online gambling company operating for the US market. But
as the proposal takes form and it seems actually possible that the ridiculous
legislation could pass through the government, the internet casinos are
protecting the assets by buying the .co.uk version of their domain names.
The Kentucky government is looking to pass legislation that would allow the
Kentucky officials to seize the domains of online casinos operating from all
over the world and then hold the domains as collateral to ensure that the
gambling sites block Kentucky gamblers from accessing the sites. Many analysts
have noted that the legislation may be outright illegal, but to be on the safe
side some online casino gambling companies have looked into domain names out of
the jurisdiction of US authorities and officials.
The only sites who have protected their site with an additional domain name are
online casinos belonging to Star Partners. Sites still run on the .com domain
but now also have an alternative URL. Some of the sites that have implemented
the changes include: CrazyVegasCasino, CrazyPoker, CasinoUS, MapleCasino,
RiverNileCasino, and others. The new domain names have the same base but have
substituted the .com for a .co.uk or .net. |
