Online Casinos Aren't There
The Kentucky government is looking more foolish by the day now that the
negotiations regarding the state’s proposed online casino gambling really
stepped up. Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has really pushed new legislation
that would block online casinos from accessing Kentuckian gamblers by
threatening the sites with the closure of their domain names for non-compliance.
The proposed legislation is entirely protectionist in nature and is designed to
give the Kentucky horserace betting venues a better chance at securing the
majority of the bets taking place within the state. Beshear is a notably
pro-gambling politician and the current ridiculous legislation is the Governor’s
attempt to bring more revenue into the horserace betting venues and thus a
larger chunk of tax revenue going into state coffers.
The whole process however, since the plan was announced to the global online
casino gambling industry, has become a veritable side show and spectacle. The
Governor has out forth a list of the more than 140 online casinos and betting
sites that currently target and operate in the Kentucky market. The proposal
entails the Kentucky government seizing control over the domain names of all of
these countries and then holding the domain names as hostage should the sites
continue to accept Kentuckian gamblers.
Unsurprisingly however, many of the online casinos and domain names on the
seizure list are no longer in operation. Notably, several of the sites have been
shut down completely for more than two months because of the death of the former
owner and operator of the brands. Despite the fact that these sites are no
longer operating within the market, they are still on the list of companies that
will be banned from operating in the Kentucky online gambling and betting
industry. |
