Well Why Not, I Guess
A problem gambler from the UK is taking to heart the expression “if you don’t
succeed, try, try again. Gambler Graham Calvert lost a court case against the
William Hill land and online casino gambling and betting group earlier this
year, yet for some reason Calvert thinks he has a better shot this time around.
The courts sided in favor of the online casino gambling company and in the
process avoided a very major decision that would have made the gambling
establishments in the UK directly responsible for the problem gamblers
frequenting their business. Calvert claims that his case is still valid and that
Will Hill is at fault for the GBP 2 million that he bet over the course of just
five months.
Calvert is a self-described compulsive gambler. The backbone of his case rests
on the fact that Calvert asked the land and online casino gambling company to be
excluded from any gambling at Will Hill. Yet despite his request for
self-exclusion, he was able to open another gambling account and then blow
millions on bets and gambling. The High Courts tossed out the case early in the
year however and noted that William Hill did take reasonable care in ensuring
that Calvert was unable to gamble at the company’s land betting venues and
online casinos.
The ruling quite obviously didn’t sit too well with Calvert and he is back in
the UK media and is looking to appeal the ruling and prolong this case. Just
like last time though, most in the land and online casino gambling industry
assume he has little chance of winning. |
