A Warm Welcome for Online Casinos
Marketing on the internet just got a whole lot easier for online casino gambling
companies in the UK – Google UK announced that it has lifted the restrictions on
gambling companies advertising through the company. There is scarcely a need to
define Google – the company is the world’s largest search engine and dominates
the field in terms of online advertising and the such. Google in the United
States still has the ban in place and there is little chance that it will lift
anytime soon. The UK on the other hand has really liberalized its land and
online casino gambling market over the past year and the new policies at Google
reflect the UK government’s more liberal approach to gambling advertisements.
The ban on land and internet gambling ads has been in effect since the summer of
2007 and the company lifted the ban for licensed online casinos. The UK has some
very strict advertising policies in place and basically only internet gambling
companies on the UK’s “White List” have been able to participate in television,
radio, and print advertisements. Bascially, Google will use the same list of UK
licensed and White Listed online casino gambling sites to determine those
companies able to use Google’s Adwords program.
Google has some very precise policies in place though related to the
reinstatement of Google Adwords use by the online casinos – specifically, the
gambling companies must not only be licensed to operate in the UK, but the
advertisements must also only target UK gamblers – ie gamblers in England,
Wales, and Scotland. |
