Online Casinos Waiting Even Longer
A glitch in the computer system at the Franklin County Court has left the online
casino gambling industry in the dark for another few days. The Kentucky case is
presided over by Judge Thomas Wingate and has lasted more than a solid month.
Many in the industry and in the Kentucky State government assumed that the case
would only last a week at most – and then the state of Kentucky would have the
power to officially seize 141 domain names from online casinos registered all
over the world. The case has gained international attention because it affects
some pretty prominent European and American online gambling sites.
The case has been postponed half a dozen times now and there is no indication at
all about which way the judge plans to sway. GambleCraft has extensive
information available about the history on this case and the wide sweeping
implications of the seizure of these online casino gambling domain names. The
latest information on the case indicates that Wingate will release his judgment
in the case on the afternoon of October 16, 2008 instead of the previous day as
was planned. The computer situation at the court house is just one of the
reasons that the judgment on the case has been delayed – Wingate has also
delayed judgment several times to ensure that he was able to consider all of the
information submitted from the online casino gambling industry, the State of
Kentucky, and the domain name registrars.
This case is very important for the online casino gambling industry and that
there is a lot of support from the Poker Players Alliance at the court house.
The PPA supports the internet gambling industry and has publicly released a
statement denouncing the State of Kentucky’s attempted seizure of international
domain names. The PPA’s protestors were outside of the courts this week in
anticipation of a judgment. |
