Another Thumbs Down
There just isn’t a whole lot of support right now for the proposed Kentucky
legislation which would allow the state of Kentucky to seize the domain names of
more than 141 online casino gambling sites that currently (or even previously)
operated in the Kentucky market. The domain name registrars and the online
casinos themselves were the first to object to the pending action. And it didn’t
take long for the Kahnawake Gaming Commission to then publicly protest the
action with a letter from the Chief of the KGC to Kentucky Governor Steve
Beshear. As if that wasn’t enough though, the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling
Initiative (SSIGI) has thrown in its opinion as well – and it just isn’t looking
to good for the domain name seizure.
Although the Kentucky lawyers on the case assert that the State is within its
right because of a piece of archaic law that gives the Kentucky officials the
right to confiscate illegal gambling devices, the rest of the world and the
international online casino gambling industry disagrees. Governor Steve Beshear
was the lucky recipient of yet another disapproving letter – this one from SSIGI.
The was actually pretty PC and acknowledged that the underground online casino
gambling industry in the US and particularly in Kentucky is in need of change.
But the letter went onto to note that “unfortunately, [Governor Beshear’s]
solution is flawed.”
The failure of the US’s controversial UIGEA is just one whopping indication that
the prohibition of online casino gambling is ineffective. The courts are set to
rule on the issue in the coming week. |
