Online Casinos Motivations Questioned: 2
So with the controversial side of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation’s
responsible gaming efforts covered, some in the online casino gambling industry
might be wondering just what this company is doing to protect and educate
underage gamblers. The Corporation has allocated Cdn$8 million to the efforts
and is using the money to fund a range of programs that target some of the more
serious problems in the industry as well as the areas that have the most
misinformation associated with them.
The CEO of the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation, Marie Mullally, outlined all of
the companies efforts in depth with details on some of the company’s
one-of-a-kind responsible gambling Web site – apparently a first for the online
casino gambling industry. According to Mullally, the gamblers can use the new
responsible gambling site to “track gambling activity and spending habits to
better manage their play” as well as view information related to “setting time
limits, budgeting and knowing the odds.” Besides the Web site, other efforts
include projects at high schools and universities and are based on educating the
students.
On a different note, it is refreshing to see that some of the online casinos and
internet gambling groups are making a real effort to protect vulnerable players
from all over the world. There are certainly other companies donating large
chunks of money to the UK’s RIGT, and others have invested in advanced
technology to keep the underage gamblers from even accessing the online casino
sites – but this really the first company to take matters into its own hand and
tackle the problem. |
