Now You See It, Now You Don't
Online casino gamblers in Argentina were surprised this week to find that the
Formoapuestas is no longer up and running even though the site has a license to
offer internet gambling services in the Argentine market that doesn’t expire for
more than a decade. Formoapuestas has been in operation in this market for
several years now and has a solid reputation for reliable online casino gambling
through a license with Microgaming – one of the top software development
companies in the world. Surprisingly, even the managing director was left
completely unaware of the situation until the gambling license was withdrawn.
The Loteria Nacional in Argentina withdrew the online casino gambling license
from the company with little notice – which then meant that the site was
subsequently shut down abruptly and gamblers were unaware of what was happening.
The reason for the license withdrawal is still a bit up in the air – many in the
industry assume that the Loteria Nacional pulled the license in response to news
that Buenos Aires’ provincial government may ban online casino gambling.
The new legislation is already drafted and may very well push through – if it
doesn’t however, there is no indication at this point whether Formoapuestas will
reopen its virtual doors for business. In the mean time, the pending legislation
is likely to slow the flood of online casinos eagerly looking to enter the South
American market. GambleCraft will give additional details as they are released
about this situation – gamblers can expect the new legislation will really only
affect the provincial area of Buenos Aires if it does pass. |
