Halting Online Casinos in South America?
Rumors in the industry are rampant – is the Argentinean considering a ban on
forms of internet gambling – including gambling at the online casinos? There has
been some questionable developments as of late in the Buenos Aries gambling
market that lends credence to the rumors. Basically, an online caisno gambling
site that was licensed to offer internet gambling activities was abruptly shut
down – with simply no warning to management at the company. There are still
other internet gambling companies operating, but some assume that the abrupt
closure of Formoaspuestas could be related to the fact that politicians in
Buenos Aires are looking at imposing new restrictions on the market.
The implications of this could be huge for the global internet gambling industry
– numerous online casinos have begun to invest in the South American gambling
market and all of the rumored potential within this region. On the up side,
Buenos Aires is only one of the markets under consideration right now by foreign
online casino gambling companies. And while it would certainly put a damper on
expansions in South America, there are several other countries with legalized
internet gambling – each with potentially lucrative markets.
Online casinos already moving into the Argentinean market should continue to
watch the developments closely in light of further restrictions. The politicians
are looking to firmly block internet gambling at the ISP level – this is
relatively more effective than methods such as banning (as in the US
legislation) but will likely not be entirely effective, even if numerous
protocol and regulations are in place. |
