Those in the online casino gambling industry hoping for a ruling from the
Kentucky judge presiding over the controversial case, Franklin Circuit Court
Judge Wingate, are going to have to wait yet one more week for a ruling while
the judge considers all of the legal briefs and arguments submitted to the
courts on the case. The Kentucky case has virtually taken over the industry news
at this point as the online casino gambling companies await a verdict on the
attempted seizure of internationally registered domain names.
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear has pushed legislation that would seize the
domain names of as many as 141 online casino gambling sites that currently
offering gambling and betting services to Kentucky residents. The case
immediately caused an eruption from the internet gambling industry and the
domain name registrars, which object to the seizure on the grounds of freedom of
trade and the such. The case has sparked so much controversy that the Judge has
postponed ruling on the case a couple of times now.
The postponement by Judge Wingate were issued so that both sides could present
legal briefs, information, statistics, and anything else pertinent to the case.
All of the information was due to the courts by October 7, 2008 and Judge
Wingate was expected to pass ruling. The actually judgment date has now been
moved to October, 15, 2008. This means that the online casinos affected by the
possible seizure are in a holding pattern as they wait for a verdict on the
case. |
