Kentucky DoJ Spokesperson
You just can’t escape the news about the Kentucky online casino domain name
seizure case – the issue went from a small state conflict to an international
side show in just the matter of a month. The international online gambling
industry is watching the case closely because of the impact this ruling could
have in the international sector. GambleCraft has already outline some of the
defense team’s strategy and their argument for the domain name seizure. A
representative from the Kentucky Justice Department, Jennifer Brislin, released
some additional information about the case that elaborates on not only why the
state is looking to seize the domain names of more than 141 online casinos, but
also what the state hopes to accomplish in the long run with the domain name
seizure.
The cynics in the industry media have clearly pointed to a bit of greed and
protectionism at the root of the proposed domain name seizure – Kentucky
Governor Beshear has even acknowledge that some of his issue with the online
casino gambling issue stems directly from the fact that the internet gambling
sites pull serious revenue from the land betting and gambling companies. But
there is apparently a bit more to it… or maybe not.
Brislin recently noted that the state hopes to recoup some of the lost funds
from the seized online casino gambling sites by way of compensation for past
actions. Additionally, the state notes that its intentions are largely honorable
– they just want to force the internet gambling companies to block Kentucky
residents so that the residents will head over to the land gambling and betting
venues. |
