Delisle Objects to Domain Seizure
The Kentucky domain name seizure case has gained some very serious international
attention this week from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The KGC is one of the
largest licensing jurisdictions for online casinos and internet gambling
companies and many of the sites on Kentucky Governor Steve Beshears list
objectionable sites are licensed by the KGC and will be negatively affected by
the proposed domain name seizure. The head of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake,
Grand Chief Michael Ahríhrhon Delisle, Jr, sent an official letter of objection
this week to the Kentucky Governor strongly protesting the current anti-online
casino gambling legislation.
The letter was quite firm and laid out the Commission’s strong concerns that the
proposed legislation will violate the rights of the online casinos in question
and also noted that the KGC planned to go to any lengths necessary to “protect
[the] jurisdiction and the integrity of the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission.”
The Kentucky government ordered a seizure of 141 domain names of online casino
gambling sites that operated in the Kentucky market at some point in the past
year. The Order of Seizure was immediately contested and the case is now in the
Kentucky courts and the internet gambling companies are left waiting for a
resolution. The internet casinos are still able to maintain their status quo and
offer all of the same gambling services until a ruling is passed in the case.
The KGC’s letter specifically outlined that the Commission felt the Kentucky
legislation was unacceptable and that the actions outlined in the proposed
legislation are more specifically what are unacceptable. The KGC has spoken out
on the issue and will protect its licensed online casinos until this case finds
an appropriate resolution. |
