Executives Busted for Poker
Informal land gambling can get you in trouble with the local authorities in some
countries if you’re not careful – unfortunately several attendees at the recent
affiliate conference in Barcelona last week found that out the hard way. Local
authorities raided the hotel where several of the delegates from the conference
were engaging in an informal gambling poker game. Land gambling in Spain is only
legal at the land casinos – even online casino gambling is taboo in the country
with specific carve-outs in place for betting. The affiliate conference last
week is one of the largest in the online casino gambling industry and the
delegates for the conference travel from all over the world to participate in
the multi-day event.
The conference officials have not released any additional information on which
delegates and online casino gambling executives were involved in the land poker
tournament bust. Initial information from the police indicate that no one was
arrested in the bust but rather the police confiscated all of the gambling
equipment affiliated with the poker tournament. The poker tourney in question
was intended as a simple and informal free-roll event – undoubtedly not the only
tourney that was played over the conference weekend. There is no indication as
to why the Mossos d’Esquadra raided that particular event or who tipped off the
police.
Interestingly though the freeroll tourney was a result of competition that
extended from the online casino poker rooms – the more than 42 individuals
present at the tournament in question used the internet to qualify for the
event. Additional details concerning those involved and the such will be
released as more information is provided from the conference officials, the
Spanish police, and those land and online gamblers involved in the case.
