Online Casino Bids Farewell
The US gambling industry has been a tricky business ever since the US government
passed the controversial UIGEA through. The UIGEA banned offshore online casinos
from accessing US gamblers and has imposed huge fines on any company that it can
pin down. As the major companies in the international industry withdrew from the
internet gambling industry, some stayed behind and offered a gambling despite
the possible repercussions. Other sites though, like Duplicate Poker.com, found
a way to offer a modified form of online poker gambling that circumvented the US
restrictions from taking out the element of chance from the game.
Duplicate Poker became a sort of maverick in the online caisno poker gambling
industry – the site was able to offer a full range of payment methods and could
even promote its services in states that ban internet poker (like Washington
State). Duplicate Poker became a rapid success over the past year for gamblers
who were unwilling to jump through the hoops to process transactions at the
online casinos and instead headed to the Duplicate Poker site.
Just last week though, on October 5, 2008, Duplicate Poker closed its virtual
doors to its online casino poker gamblers, citing the global financial crisis as
a main reason that the company was unable to stay afloat. And while this did not
come as much of a surprise to many in the industry who have followed the
company’s finances, it is still a notable instance of the negative affect that
the slowing economy is having on the internet gambling industry. |
