RANT: Why are they Banning?
It just makes me shake my head in confusion when I have to write about yet
another country looking to ban online casino gambling after the activity has
already been introduced into the market. The facts in the situation are simple –
it is virtually impossible to effectively ban internet gambling in most markets
because of the pervasive nature of the Internet. Now, China is an example of a
country that has never allowed any form of internet gambling and still
successfully blocks this industry from Chinese citizens. But for the countries
like Argentina, Norway, and others – once the pastime has been introduced into
the market it is impossible to fully eradicate the industry.
The United States is a perfect example of how this industry is too pervasive to
work entirely effectively. Now, the US legislation is completely flawed – so
there is that to consider. But even with that in mind, few in the global online
casino gambling industry are convinced that the US’s approach by way of banning
financial transactions with foreign internet gambling companies will every work
in whole. US gamblers have (and will continue to) find away around virtually any
restriction put in place.
Many consider that the planned blocking of online casino gambling at the ISP
level Argentina will find itself virtually as ineffective as the legislation put
in place by other countries around the world looking to scale back internet
gambling activities. The citizens are already accustomed to accessing the sites
and will likely find portals and other means to access banned and blocked online
gambling sites. |
