PPA Reaches Targeted Membership
The Poker Players’ Alliance announced just last week that the Alliance has now
surpassed the one million members mark. From the beginning when the group was
formed the online casinos poker gambling group stated that the Alliance planned
to grow the membership to more than a million players in the United States who
supported internet poker gambling. The rationale behind the one million members
mark was specifically so that the Alliance would be well positioned to lobby
politicians and members of Congress on the online casinos poker gambling issue.
The PPA is specifically interested in legalizing online casinos poker gambling
in the United States through a series of parallel efforts. The PPA strongly
backs Congressman Barney Frank’s efforts to neutralize the Unlawful Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) and legalize and regulate the industry.
Additionally, baring the alteration in U.S. gambling policy related to the UIGEA,
the PPA seeks to create legislative carve-outs for online casinos poker gambling
similar to Fantasy Sports Leagues and horserace betting.
As for the one million members mark, the Alliance’s recent advertising campaign
designed to drive online casinos poker players to register as a member of the
PPA is largely responsible for the company reaching this number so soon. PPA
Chairman Alphonse D'Amato, comments, “Reaching one million members puts the PPA
on par with such political powerhouses as AARP and the National Association of
Realtors."
Although many are skeptical that the U.S. will either repeal or neutralize the
UIGEA in the short-term future, many in the online casinos poker gambling
industry are hoping that the PPA’s lobbying power will influence Congress to
pass the desired legislative carve-outs.
