Ladbrokes Takes On Online Casinos Monopolies
The European online casinos gambling industry is the subject of much heated
debate and extensive efforts on the part of the European Commission eliminate
the half-dozen state-gambling monopolies. Some internet gambling and betting
companies though are beginning to take matters into their own hands. Ladbrokes
is one of the major land and online casinos betting and gambling option in the
UK and other regions in Europe. And although Ladbrokes is a respected and
established gambling company, the Swedish government continues to deny foreign
online casino gambling company’s access to the Swedish gambling market. So,
naturally, Ladbrokes has taken on the Svenske Spel gambling monopoly and
challenged the company in Swedish advertisements.
The current heated dispute between Ladbrokes and Svenske Spel revolve around a
specific advertisement that the Ladbrokes online casinos gambling company placed
in Sweden. Ladbrokes’ ad featured the headline “Svenska Spel, Engelska Odds” –
translated that means, “Swedish Games, English Odds.” Well that ad just didn’t
sit right with the folks at the state run gambling monopoly, and now Svenske
Spel is asserting that Ladbrokes online casinos gambling group is infringing on
Svenske’s trademarked name.
Svenske Spel has now taken the issue a step further and threatened Ladbrokes
with a lawsuit if the company continues to place the advertisement in Swedish
publications. As far as the Ladbrokes online casinos gambling group is concerned
though – game on! The CEO at Ladbrokes Scandinavia, Lasse Dilshmann, remarked,
“A law suit is a dream prize for us and we like our odds.”
And it’s not personal according to Ladbrokes rather it’s a challenge to the
current online casinos gambling monopoly politics in the country – not just
against Svenske Spel, but against the notion that only the state monopoly can
provide “secure and responsible” gambling. |
