Making the Rank
The Rank online casinos gambling group has announced some impressive first
quarter revenues or the company considering all of the changes in the past year
in the land and internet gambling industries. There were certainly some skeptics
in the internet gambling industry doubting that Rank could pull itself back up
from the problems facing the company concerning restructuring costs. The crux of
the issue for the land and online casinos gambling group came from changes in
smoking and advertising regulations in regions where Rank had a corner of the
market.
The fluctuations in the British land gambling industry in regards to the smoking
ban are largely responsible for the company’s need to find new markets and
restructure some of the focus. Judging by the company’s first quarter results
for this year, the online casinos gambling sites are doing well in terms of
revenue coming from the Blue Square internet gambling site. Other pluses in the
company’s first quarter report come from Ranks holdings within the Spanish
gambling market. These operations showed in seven percent increase in gaming
revenues from the same period in 2007.
On the down side for Rank were the performances at the Grosvenor Casino and
Mecca Bingo Halls – these two land operations lost revenue over the same period
in the previous year. As a whole it seems that Rank’s online casino and internet
based holdings were largely responsible for the company being able to report a
successful first quarter to the year. As for the coming year, the company is
hopeful that the land operations will continue to gain back gamblers as the
“new” smoking ban becomes old news. |
