Raising More Funds
The Poker Players’ Alliance has announced that the group has reached the one
million member mark and is now prepared to spend the rest of 2008 doing some
serious lobbying for the online casinos poker gambling cause. The PPA is a group
of members all over the United States banning together to legalize online poker
gambling either through legislation carve-outs or through the
neutralization/repeal of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
The group has focused the past few months on boosting membership to that coveted
one million mark, and now that that has been reached, the focus is shifting onto
raising enough money to support the PPA’s online casinos poker lobbying
interests.
Now that the group has reached a million members the Alliance’s leaders, John
Pappas and Alfonse D’Amato feel that they have some serious lobbying power that
may actually influence politicians and members of Congress to effect change in
the current restrictive U.S. online casinos gambling laws. The current
fundraising goal the group announced includes plans to raise at least US
$250,000 which will go toward the Poker Political Action Committee (Poker PAC).
That is in addition to any funds that the group may spend in additional lobbying
toward further educating members of Congress on the current U.S. online casinos
gambling laws.
A large amount of the new surge in membership and interest in the PPA comes from
the national interest that the online casinos gambling debate has caused in the
United States. The PPA has ridden the coattails of last month’s Congressional
hearing and the many discussions and extensive media coverage on the issue.
