Moving into the Land Industry
The major land casino gambling companies often move into the online casino
gambling industry, but Poker Stars.com has just announced the opposite. Poker
Stars is the largest and most successful of the online poker gambling companies
in the global gambling community, and the company announced plans to open a
Poker Stars land poker room in the fast-developing Macau gambling industry. The
new poker room will bring Texas Hold’em style poker gambling into the already
successful Macau land casinos, giving the gambling operators new ways to
entertain gamblers while allowing the Asian gambling industry to learn
Western-style poker.
The Asian Poker Tour was the first time that many Asian gamblers were introduced
to a large-scale Texas Hold’em style poker tournament. As many online casinos
seek to cultivate the emerging Asian-Pacific internet gambling market, Poker
Stars found this unique opportunity to introduce land poker gambling into the
region. The President of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, Jeffrey Haas, noted the
anticipated effect of this new land poker room, “After the success of the
PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour last November, a tremendous poker boom
has resulted in Hong Kong and Macau – but it's just starting.”
Poker Stars’ move from the online casinos industry into land poker signals a new
tactic for companies looking for a foothold in the lucrative Asian gambling
industry. Although online poker is still a ways off for this region because of
restrictive legislation in many Asian countries, land poker is the most
effective way for poker gambling companies to cultivate and grow the burgeoning
Poker gambling industry.
The online poker site’s land poker room will reside in the Grand Waldo Casino in
Macau. The General Manager of the casino, Gary Woollard, commented on the
anticipated effect on the Macau gambling industry, “The arrival of poker as a
gaming option in Macau's casinos will encourage more people to come and enjoy
all Macau has to offer.” The poker room will feature all of the quality and
tournament guarantees of its online counter part – a full tourney schedule and
cash games. |
