The Kids Have an Addiction
There are few blanket statements that work in any industry, and to say that the
American youth have a problem with land and online casinos gambling addiction,
would be an overstatement. A recent study in the United States indicates that
there youth and young adults displaying problem gambling tendencies, even among
the youth that should have no way to access forms of gambling. The University of
Buffalo released a recent study that found that roughly 750,000 young Americans
have problem gambling habits. The study was conducted by the University’s
Institute on Addictions, and has definitely spurred some debate in the land and
online casinos gambling industry.
The study sampled 2,300 individuals by telephone – the age range between 14 and
21 years old. This group of gamblers is normally lumped into problem gambling
statistics without regard for age, but the fact is, the youth in America are
increasingly showing signs of problem gambling. And though the land and online
casinos gambling industry put safeguards in place to protect the underage
gamblers, the survey found that these gamblers are still finding ways to gamble.
An investigator on the research study noted, "In a society where young people
are increasingly exposed to gambling influences, there is cause for concern.”
That concern could eventually lead to new regulations and restrictions on land
gambling, as well as present itself as a strong argument for the continued
banning of online casinos gambling in the United States. There are many though
noting that regulations and restrictions only go so far, the real issue comes
down to educating these youth and young adults and affecting change through
social organizations. |
