1st Technology Defends

Bodog is not the only online casinos gambling company facing a patent lawsuit from 1st Technologies… 1st Technology actually just filed seven more patent lawsuits. The patent case between the Bodog Entertainment group and 1st Technologies has gained notoriety all over the world because of how heated the debate became between the two companies, and the lengths that 1st Technology was able to go to in order to secure payment of funds from the offshore online casinos gambling company. The new cases are similar to the Bodog case in that the companies facing a patent lawsuit are located offshore, and executives for the internet gambling companies cannot actually step on U.S. soil without facing arrest for violating federal U.S. online gambling laws.

The fact that all of the online casinos gambling companies are located offshore in the patent disputes is certainly a tactical move by 1st Technology. Because of the outcome of the Bodog patent dispute, the internet gambling companies would be hard pressed to follow the same route of ignoring the lawsuit and refusing to pay patent infringement fines. Bodog actually lost its main domain name (which was registered in the United States) as a way for 1st Technologies to recoup on some of the company’s default settlement.

The fact that offshore online casinos gambling companies can loose their domain names in patent cases as a whole new element to international patent infringement. Prior to the Bodog case, companies had little or no recourse for enforcing patents outside of the U.S. for U.S. registered patents. The Bodog case sets a precedent for a new playing field as 1st Technologies enters the new patent negotiations.
