Trouble in Land Poker
Without the online casinos industry to fight over, electronic poker companies
have announced another patent dispute. There are two major electronic poker
table suppliers for the land poker gambling industry, and Lightening Poker has
filed a patent lawsuit against fellow supplier PokerTek. The two companies have
faced off previously over a similar patent dispute, and PokerTek came out the
winner of the last law suit.
Both companies hold exclusive licenses to some of the most developed
technologies within the electronic poker table industry, but Lightening Poker
claims that PokerTec has violated some of the company’s software patents. On the
flip side, and to eliminate future disputes PokerTek is in the process of filing
new patents on some of the company’s electronic poker table related software.
PokerTec is develops technology exclusively for the land gambling industry
primarily because the online casinos industry is on hold in the U.S. at this
point.
This is not the first patent dispute in the poker gambling industry, 1st
Technology currently develops online casinos poker software and technology and
has an ongoing lawsuit against Bodog. The two companies have made international
news because of their lawsuit and Bodog’s refusal to even acknowledge that 1st
Technology has a legitimate case against the Bodog online casinos gambling site.
As for PokerTek and Lightening Poker though, PokerTek is confident that it will
come out the victor in this latest patent lawsuit. The CEO at the company, Chris
Halligan, remarks, "After consulting with our attorneys, we believe this suit is
without merit.” PokerTek expects to resolve the issue quickly. |
