Online Casinos Defend Territory
Argentinean internet gambling monopolies are petitioning the government to stop
Bwin’s access to national advertising for internet gambling and betting
activities. Bwin is new to the Argentinean online casinos gambling industry and
just began to advertise nationally in newspapers throughout the country. The
only current internet gambling companies are localized to the country and
currently have a virtual monopoly – this is at the core of the issues with the
Argentinean authorities.
Bwin is licensed in the Misiones province in Argentina and can therefore operate
online casinos gambling throughout the country according to the company. The
current issue lies in the fact that local gambling monopolies claim that Bwin’s
license does not give the Austrian-based company the right to advertise
nationally. Bwin is currently handling the negotiations with the Argentinean
authorities with good humor and the company expects to resolve the issue. A
spokesperson for Bwin elaborated on the issues, “The advertising may have
brought our activities to their attention, while the local monopolies will
always try to defend their territory”.
There is certainly truth in that statement and the online casinos and betting
company will have its work cut out in the coming weeks sorting out the issue
concerning whether internet gambling licenses that are issued by provincial
authorities allow a company to then advertising products and services throughout
the country. A Buenos Aires court has already ruled that Bwin must shut down
Argentinean online gambling operations; the company is confident it can work out
these issues. |
