Not a Phishing Scam
Neteller has not apparently perfected the art of communication – an alleged
phishing scam at the online casinos payment processor was in fact confirmed as
genuine just yesterday. With the high rate of criminal activity in the internet
gambling industry it is always important for online casinos gamblers and
e-payment processors to use caution when following links within emails. In this
case though the communication to account holders was legitimate and Neteller is
updating the company’s IP tracking system. This information was released by
Neteller’s security division and the company emphasized that the email was
genuine and that the company would look into ways to ensure more effective
communication with Neteller account holders.
GambleCraft.com previously released the information that online casinos players
and Neteller account holders in particular should be alert to an email that
alleged that the site needed players to login and provide location information.
Now the security division of Neteller elaborated on the upgrades to the Neteller
site and attributed the email to the company’s efforts to further protect
account holders from illegal activity on their accounts like phishing or
identity theft.
Neteller communications noted that the previous email to online casinos account
holders is a “security measure to ensure the location of your login matches the
country of residence registered with your NETELLER account." Now that this has
been confirmed as a valid email, account holders are encouraged to update their
information on the site, particularly if planning to travel outside of their
country of residence. The company is looking into a better communication policy
for the future mass dissemination of information to account holders.
