Dispute Gets Nasty
There is little that can be done at this point to remedy the heated dispute
between the founder and CEO of Bodog Entertainment and the head of 1st
Technologies, Dr. Scott Lewis. The two are facing off in a verbal mud slinging
contest that goes well beyond the court dispute that awarded 1st Technologies
$45 million in online casinos patent compensation. Bodog has no intention of
paying up the court ordered amount and 1st Technology countered by having a
Washington court authorize the 1st Technology to confiscate Bodog’s main domain
names as a way to recoup the funds.
And that is where the niceties end – at this point the two men are now sparring
over the issue in the media and through Web sites. Calvin Ayre is the feisty CEO
of Bodog Entertainment, which runs online casinos poker sites for U.S. players
(with plans to move into the European market in the coming months. Ayre has met
this dispute with attitude and harsh words at every step of the way as Lewis
continues to press forward in court cases against Bodog. Lewis has begun to
subpoena all of the online casinos related companies and marketing affiliates of
Bodog – an activity that has only served to severely anger Ayre.
Ayre does not mince words on his personal blog and he has outright threatened
Lewis that he will counter the continued legal assault with a personal attack.
The online casinos industry has really never been so volatile as right now –
this dispute has made national news in the U.S. as Ayre writes in his personal
blog: "The bottom line, Scott? You are not in court with Bodog, dude. So get
that through your thick f****** head. Oh… and that company you sued? They never
ever ran any websites so there's no way they could have violated a web patent.
But what's a technicality like that to a guy who is basically a stuffy, college
educated back alley mugger…" Ayre alleges that the company that Lewis and 1st
Technologies sued is not actually the company runs the Bodog Web sites and
online casino gambling operations. |
