Just Wait, It Wont Be Long
The South African government is very close to passing legislation to legalize
online casinos gambling in the country – but it hasn’t passed yet, so be
careful. South Africa’s Parliament has debated over the issue for months, passed
and ammeded proposed legislation for months, and the fact is, the legalization
is still a bit in the future – weeks or months it all depends on when Parliament
comes to a consensus on the specific regulations that will accompany the
legalization of online casinos gambling.
But the fact that internet gambling isn’t quite legal isn’t stopping many in the
country. A select few number of online casinos gambling companies have chosen to
remain open to the South African gambling market while the government debated
legalizing the pastime. Important for internet gamblers to understand though is
that the activity is not legal and actually carries a heavy sentence is
prosecuted – either a heavy fine or imprisonment, or both. Then on top of that,
the players are not protected if they have a complaint against and online casino
gambling company – there is no recourse for the players in the unregulated
environment as it currently exists.
The South African media though, and even the government, have made enough
affirmations about licensing the online casinos industry in the near future that
there is little doubt that it will happen soon.
The government is on the verge of solidifying a draft of the internet gambling
regulations, and once those pass, it is only a matter of time between when the
regulations pass through the National Assembly and when the country’s National
Gambling Board is able to effectively hand out licenses. For that reason, it is
recommended that internet casino gamblers err on the side of caution and wait
until Parliament legalizes the pastime.
