Funding Gambling Addiction
A Scottish online casinos poker gambling addict is now sought for questioning in
an investigation into monies missing from the poker player’s place of
employment. A telecommunications company discovered that one of the company’s
employees was using company money to fund a high-stakes poker gambling habit.
This incident comes at a time when the global online casino industry, internet
poker gambling industry, and nations that allow internet gambling are all
looking into not only the effects of gambling addictions, but a growing related
disorder – Internet addiction.
Internet addiction is not localized to just online casinos gamblers and others
in related fields, but rather those addicted to using the Internet and willing
to forego personal and business relationships. This growing trend, along with
gambling addiction is causing concern. As for the current incident though,
friends and relatives of Chris Proudfoot had no idea that the young credit
controller worker was even involved in any land and online casinos poker
activities. Says a friend of Proudfoot, "It's a shock to think that Chris has
been gambling away his employers' money. We never had him down as a gambling
addict. He doesn't go to the bookies in town and we've never known him to bet on
anything."
And as for the company alleging that Chris has stolen as much as £1 million,
HIGHnet is a telecommunications company based out of Inverness, Scotland. A
company spokesperson noted that "We made a complaint to the police against Mr
Proudfoot. We are co-operating with the police and Mr Proudfoot no longer works
for the company. We cannot comment further as this is an ongoing investigation.
There isn't a final figure." Proudfoot has not worked for the company for more
than six weeks at this point and the investigation is on-going.
