Whole New Management
The land bingo gambling industry (and perhaps some of the online casino bingo
gaming companies) are in for some changes thanks to a new board of executives
running the Federation of European Union Bingo Associations (EUBINGO). EUBINGO
announced a new president is taking over for the next two years and the
association will really focus on addressing some of the many challenges facing
the land gambling venues as well as the online casinos. Bingo gaming in the EU
and the UK particularly has become increasingly difficult as competition from
other companies and casinos increases and the government passes increasingly
harsh legislation and taxes on the land bingo venues.
The newly appointed president of EUBINGO, Javier Franch Cardona comes from the
Spanish Association and is thus already heavily involved in the land and online
casino bingo industries. The new taxation structure in the UK (thanks to
regulations in the 2005 Gambling Act) is causing many land bingo venues to close
down – land bingo parlors are facing double taxation right now and are finding
it difficult to turn profits and even simply run the venue with the hefty taxing
scheme.
Cardona is aware of the other troubles facing land bingo operators, which
includes the increasing competition from the online casinos and internet bingo
sites. He observes, “2008-2010 looks set to present the bingo sector with very
specific challenges, not least in the form of continued smoking bans, providing
for responsible gaming and competition from other forms of gaming – we at
EUBINGO look forward to these challenges.”
As for the other changes to the executives at EUBINGO, former president Sir
Peter Fry is stepping down into a support position as the Vice President and
Italo Marcotti is acting as secretary for this next term. The association will
really face some tough challenges in the coming months as it attempts to provide
rescue legislation for the UK land bingo venues suffering from the competition
from online casino bingo sites, and the many other problems. But the new
management team is extremely knowledgeable and will no doubt resolve some of
these issues. |
