Tracking Players

Harrah’s Entertainment has announced a new feature at the land casinos lounge – a touch screen computer that allows players to not only order their bar drinks, but they can also watch videos on YouTube among other innovative new features. Just a few months ago Bill Gates noted that touch screen technology was the future of the computer industry – gone will be the days of needing a mouse to navigate your screen, or even to type in some cases. Touch screen gambling has already revolutionized land slots gambling, and has the potential to also transform the online casino gambling industry as touch screen technology makes it to the consumer market.

The new Harrah’s product is through a partnership with Microsoft to offer casino patrons a fully interactive bar and gaming center. Even better than entertaining the players though, the new program allows the land gambling company to gather even more information on its gamblers and loyal players. The Chief Information Officer at Harrah’s observed that with the new interactive bar technology in place, "The range of opportunities is almost limitless."

While only really launching in land gambling venues, this same touch technology will undoubtedly transfer onto personal computer, and thus into the online casino gambling industry within the next decade. In a previous speech about the future of the computer and online technology industries, touch and interactive screens were the future and would dominate the market in as few as five years. At this point, Harrah’s is one of the first companies to bring this unique opportunity to the land gambling industry, but Microsoft will surely have a more widespread product launch in the coming year.
