PPA Takes Online Casino Poker Seriously
The United States continues to equivocate on the internet gambling issue, and
organizations like the Poker Players Alliance are spearheading efforts to reopen
the U.S. online casino gambling market. Beyond just opening the market to allow
all forms of internet gambling, the PPA seeks to form legislative carve-outs for
internet poker gambling that would exempt the pastime from the U.S.’s foreign
online casinos ban, the UIGEA. The PPA now has more than one million registered
members in the U.S. and is backed by hundreds of thousands in funds.
The PPA some of the organization’s funds to lobby Congress for changes to the
current online casino gambling legislation, but other monies are spent educating
state politicians and land poker gamblers. Currently, the PPA has a booth at the
Las Vegas World Series of Poker and is using the event as a platform to educate
land poker players of the current unconstitutional and hypocritical U.S.
gambling ban. The WSOP event welcomes some of the top poker players from the
online casinos, and from the land gambling industry – that makes the event the
perfect venue for the organization to reach a wide range of their target market.
The PPA Chairman, Alfonse D’Amato commented on the prime location of the PPA’s
WSOP booth, “We are very excited to bring our grassroots efforts to poker's
hallowed ground, and we are grateful that Harrah's and the WSOP have provided us
with premium space to get our message to the poker community.” At this point,
the PPA is focused on spreading the message “that poker is a game of skill and
not a crime, ” as well as boosting the groups number of registered members –
this includes land and online casino poker gamblers, as well as several
prominent poker professionals.
