He Really Wants Land Casinos
The current governor of Massachusetts, Deavl Patrick, is really pushing land
casino gambling in the state. Although other politicians and specifically the
Massachusetts House of Representatives vetoed Governor Patrick’s bill, he has a
new measure in place to secure land gambling. Since his time in office, Governor
Patrick has become seen as having a very pro-land gambling agenda. His previous
efforts included efforts to ban online casino gambling in the state while
bringing in three land gambling resorts.
Governor Patrick’s bill sparked controversy all over the U.S. and Massachusetts
because of exaggerated claims within the bill, as well as the hidden clause that
would have made gambling at the online casinos at Class C felony offense in the
state – punishable by prison time! The hidden clause, along with false
estimations of annual gambling revenue essentially set the bill up for failure.
Now though, although many politicians assumed that the land and online casino
gambling issue was laid to rest for the time being, Governor Patrick has begun
negotiations with the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian tribe. The Indian tribes have
federal exemptions concerning operating land gambling, and Patrick is looking at
a favorable deal with the tribe as a way to bring gambling revenue into the
state coffers. Other Indian gaming agreements net millions in monthly revenue
for state governments, as high as 25 percent of the generated revenue in many
cases.
Initial reports indicate that Governor Patrick’s negotiations with the tribe
concerns building a large resort casino. As far as online casino gambling is
concerned, Governor Patrick has little recourse at this point for continuing his
attempts to ban internet gambling in the state.
