What are They Doing?
The World Poker Association has undergone some major changes in the past two
weeks and it leaves the land and online casino industries scratching their
heads. The WPA is based out of the United States and made structural changes to
upper level management just two weeks ago. The WPA announced that the former CEO
of the WPA, Wendeen Eolis, would take over as the Chairperson of a eight-member
board of directors for the company. Then, as fast as the announcement had been
made, all members of the board resigned their positions and the WPA announced
that Jeese Jones would take over as the “Chariman Emeritus” of the WPA.
The two successive announcements were very surprising right now. The online
casino and poker gambling industries are in a precarious state right now in the
U.S., and the WPA is involved in raising the standards of the poker gambling
industry not only in the United States, but also on an international level.
Online casinos have begun to offer services to players all over the world, and
the WPA works standards authority. The changing of senior management though was
startling, and the company has yet to even address the short lived Board of
Directors idea.
Only Eolis briefly acknowledged the disbanding of the board of directors – and
just so far as to comment that she plans to continue supporting the land and
online casino poker industry by working on one of the two presidential
campaigns. Jones will now lead the WPA into new territories and plans to
continue developing the company’s commitment to providing ethical standards and
player support mechanisms in the international gambling industry. |
