Confusing Online Casino Gambling in South America
The South American internet gambling is a ripe target for some European
companies looking to expand into new markets – the only problem is that many
South American countries have confusing and conflicting online casino gambling
policies in place. This is the case in Argentina; the country is comprised of 23
autonomous regions with 23 different gambling regulations and legislation in
place. Further compounding the problem is a lack of clear federal legislation.
But while the national gambling legislation is still in the works, Buenos Aires
is considering legalizing online casino gambling in the region.
This is a pretty big step forward for the region, which currently has unclear
regulations relating to online casino gambling. The newly planned legislation
would not only give Buenos Aires a clear stance on internet gambling, but would
then allow foreign online casinos a way into the Argentinean gambling market.
Bwin previously attempted to offer forms of internet gambling throughout
Argentina but restrictions in Buenos Aires has forced the company to suspend
operations in the region until the case is settled. And though Bwin has
encountered some problems with the regional authorities, other online casinos
are already firmly moving into the market. Namely the 888 gambling group and
Victor Chandler already offering online casino and betting services in
Argentina.
At this point, it seems that the new legislation would allow internet betting
specifically, and a regional internet lottery. Initial reports speculate that
the Intralot online casino gambling group could win the first license to operate
internet betting in the region – no word yet on how open the regional government
plans to make the industry. |
