Client List Worth Millions
The land and online casino gambling industry thrives from
the high rollers despite the assumption by many that every bet helps. Although
there isn’t a casino out there that would exclude any gamblers access to the
tables and slots because of small bankrolls, the real money comes from regular
high rollers frequenting the games. The land and online casinos often have
serious incentives and perks for high stakes gamblers, basically the casinos
will do just about anything to get gamblers to spend a night out on the town.
That Tropicana gambling group out of Atlantic City is now prosecuting three
former employees who stole the casino’s database of high value gamblers.
The three gamblers all worked for Tropicana three years previously, and when the
employees left their positions with the casino, they took a copy of the
high-value client list as well. The reason was simple – leverage at their new
jobs. In the land and online casino gambling industry high profile gamblers are
the bread and butter for the companies (along with the slots). The prosecutors
in the case have valued the stolen list at $108 million – that puts the theft as
a major high profile crime. Anne Milgram, the Attorney General is involved in
the case and notes, "We charge that these marketers stole one of the most
valuable assets of the casino. This type of corporate espionage and theft
involving proprietary information is a very serious crime."
What’s more is that the three former employees went directly to some of the
Tropicana’s most serious competition in the U.S. – Borgata and the Las Vegas
Bellagio. According to the allegations the employees downloaded and stole the
list from Tropicana for the express purpose of future job leverage. |
