The latest licensing application from the Gala land and online casino gambling group is causing some controversy and speculation. The Gala Group operates in both the land and internet bingo industries – and while the company’s internet bingo products have done exceedingly well lately, the land bingo industry is facing an ongoing slump. New UK regulations and legislation that took effect last year – these new regulations not only placed a smoking ban on the land gambling venues, but has also left the land bingo companies facing a controversial double tax from the government.

The online casino gambling and bingo industry has really taken off in recent months all over the UK – in the last year the number of internet bingo sites has exponentially multiplied. Many of these new internet bingo gamblers are heading to the internet sites rather than the land bingo halls because of all of the new restrictions on the land gaming industry – it’s just easier to gamble from the comfort of your home. As a way to combat the pull of the online casinos and internet bingo sites, companies like Gala Bingo are increasingly looking for small loopholes that will allow the company to turn more of a profit.

Gala recently applied for a land bingo gambling license in Birmingham City, and the City Council is questioning the way that Gala has divided the layout plans for the new facility. The layout is divided into four distinct gambling areas and Gala intentionally designed the facility in a manner that would maximize the number of gambling machines the venue would qualify for. The Council licensing committee though is less inclined to allow the company to circumvent the gambling machine legislation – the Council’s decision will be announced this week.
