Aston Villa Chooses Charity
The UK football clubs and online casinos have come under close scrutiny over the
past several months as the UK Gambling Commission sorts out current concerns
over shirt-sponsorship deals. The majority of the UK football teams have used
shirt-sponsorships with the major sportsbetting and online casino gambling sites
as a way to bring in more funds to the team. But as the Gambling Commission
considers banning the sponsorship deals with the casino gambling companies, some
football teams are choosing to end the agreements themselves and instead look
toward charitable organizations that will benefit from the international
exposure.
Aston Villa and other football clubs have already moved into the charity arena –
no longer recommitting to the previously lucrative deals with the online casinos
and sportsbetting companies, Aston Villa will instead work with the Acorns
Children’s Hospice. This is not the first time that a football club is moving
away from association and ties to online casino gambling and that industry’s
huge profits, instead clubs like Hammarby, Brondby, Barcelona, and Aston Villa
are choosing the charity sponsorships.
The online casino gambling industry is certainly not pleased with the new
trends. Shirt sponsorships were worth millions because the shirts were seen on
television sets all over the world for an entire season. Aston Villa has just
ended its two-year deal with the32Red online gambling site, and from here on
out, Aston Villa plans to use the unique positioning of shirt sponsorship deals
to benefit charitable organizations. Other charities benefiting from this new
trend in charitable sponsorships include UNICEF. |
