Online Casinos Aren't Popular
The Norwegian Gambling Commission released some surprising results this week
about the nation’s online casino gambling industry. The internet gamblers
largely prefer the lotto as their internet gaming option of choice. Online
casinos are extremely popular all over the European Union (and the world) but
this sector of the internet gambling industry was actually the smallest sector
in the breakdown of gambling preferences. Other types of online games factored
into the equation included internet poker, sportsbetting, and mobile gambling.
The Norwegian government is largely attempting to seriously cutback on the
availability of offshore online casino gambling in Norway. The nation operates a
gambling monopoly through Norske Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto. These two companies
dominate the land gambling and betting industry, but the online casinos and
foreign gambling sites actually account for taking more than 80 percent of the
nation’s internet gambling revenue. The other less than 20 percent is taken by
the state monopolies.
The Gambling Commission’s data indicates that not only is online casino and
itnenret gambling a male dominated pastime in Norway, but a mere 2 percent of
the female population participates. Additionally, research indicates that a
whopping 48 percent of Norwegian gamblers prefer the internet lotto. Online
poker was the next most popular, followed by sports betting, and internet
casinos brought up the tail end of the stats, with a mere 7 percent of the
gambling population.
Also surprising though was the trend toward mobile phone gambling. The mobile
online casinos are increasingly popular for the internet gamblers with 9 percent
of the 244,000 gamblers in Norway showing a preference for using the mobile
devices to gamble. |
