Addressing Other Issues
The American Gaming Association (AGA) has announced a change in the
Association’s Board of Directors members. Namely, the MGM is changing it’s
representation on the Board as Terri Lanni has resigned his position. The MGM
though is a major force in the land casino gambling industry and the company
will still maintain an alliance with the AGA. Lanni though is a top executive
for the company who is looking to use the time spent on the AGA board to address
more pressing issues – some of which involve developing an online casino
gambling industry within the United States.
Many of the land gambling companies that are AGA members have expressed a strong
interest in launching U.S. facing online casinos once all of the controversial
federal legislation is settled. Congress passed the UGIEA online casino gambling
ban in 2006 which has been met with much criticism all over the world. The AGA
as an organization has no strong opinion either way on the internet gambling
debate, and instead backs efforts to initiate a year-long government funded
analysis of the potential revenue, market, and problems associated with
licensing and regulating online casinos in the U.S.
As for the current issue at hand, Lanni remains in his position at the MGM and
publicly asserts that his reasons for leaving the AGA Board are wholly personal
and not because of political differences or the clashing of opinions. Instead
Lanni plans to focus much of his time on addressing the increasing concerns of
corporate diversity, among other pressing issues facing the land and future
online casino gambling industry. |
